My Heart

My heart runs around

on two sets of two legs

tanned brown in the sun

with band aids and scrapes

from head to toe.

My heart smiles at me

and it reaches to the very corners

of their lips and eyes

There is nothing that matters to me

quite like these two little lives

From the moment that they uttered their very first cries

Simply,

Completely,

Beautifully,

Happily.

My heart now lives apart

With the people that taught me how to love

About humanity and history and God above

When I see them thrive

My heart comes alive anew

It beats for both of you,

my children

My blessings,

My motivation, my muse

No matter how far apart

You will always be

little connoisseurs of my heart.
